Impact Tools - Flashlight & Cane

10 suggested reps
Origin

Impact tools sit at the intersection of civilian carry and traditional weapons - the tactical flashlight, the walking cane, and the Kubotan all follow the same principles as historic short-stick systems.

Purpose

Use a lawful, everyday-carry impact tool to extend your reach and stopping power.

The Walk-through
01

A hammer grip transmits body weight into the strike. The tool becomes an extension of the fist; the hips drive the arm, and the arm drives the tool.

02

Target the hands and forearms first. They are the frame that carries any incoming weapon; break the frame and the weapon falls with it. Head shots are reserved for the moments the law would call for them.

03

Retention is non-negotiable. A tool you lose becomes a tool used against you. Practice striking, retracting, and re-indexing until the tool never leaves your grip until you choose.

Key Points
  • 1Hammer grip for strikes, ice-pick grip for retention
  • 2Target the hands and forearms first, head last
  • 3Retain the tool - never let go mid-fight
Common Mistakes
  • Swinging the tool like a club and losing balance
  • Overextending and letting the tool get grabbed
  • Striking the head as a first option rather than a last one
When to Use
Any lawful carry environment where an impact tool is presentAs the intermediate response between empty hands and a deadly weaponEspecially valuable for smaller defenders facing size disparity
