The safest fight with a blade is the one you leave. Once you have created a moment, your job is to disengage without inviting a follow-up.
Push them off balance; do not pull yourself away. A push extends them, a pull draws you into them. Load their back foot before you move.
Angle off at 45° before running straight. Then put a barrier between you: a car, a chair, a doorway. Objects buy time; distance buys survival.
