Safe Disengage

8 suggested reps
Origin

A civilian-first principle: winning a knife fight is not the goal - surviving to leave it is. Disengagement is the technique.

Purpose

Break contact with an armed attacker without turning your back or crossing their line.

The Walk-through
01

The safest fight with a blade is the one you leave. Once you have created a moment, your job is to disengage without inviting a follow-up.

02

Push them off balance; do not pull yourself away. A push extends them, a pull draws you into them. Load their back foot before you move.

03

Angle off at 45° before running straight. Then put a barrier between you: a car, a chair, a doorway. Objects buy time; distance buys survival.

Key Points
  • 1Push, don't pull
  • 2Angle off before you run
  • 3Barrier between you at all costs
Common Mistakes
  • Turning your back before you have a barrier
  • Pulling away instead of pushing them off
  • Sprinting on their line rather than across it
  • Chasing the disarm when you could have chased the door
When to Use
Any moment escape is possibleAfter a successful control or stripWhen the terrain offers a barrier or exit
