Collar Frame Escape

10 suggested reps
Origin

A framing escape from the school of thought that says: don't fight the grip, dismantle the structure that gives the grip its power.

Purpose

Break a two-hand collar grab and create the distance for a decisive counter.

The Walk-through
01

A two-hand collar grab shortens your air and delivers you to the wall. Do not try to pry the hands off. Build a frame instead.

02

Bring both forearms up between their arms and post the blades of your wrists under their chin. Bone against bone uses their own downward pressure to load their neck.

03

Circle your hips off their line. The frame drives their chin up and back until their spine breaks alignment, then return with a straight palm, knee, or shove to create distance.

Key Points
  • 1Post the frame under the chin
  • 2Circle the hips
  • 3Return with a straight line
Common Mistakes
  • Grabbing at their wrists instead of framing under the chin
  • Framing with soft hands instead of the wrist blades
  • Circling the shoulders and leaving the hips
  • Trying to escape without a counter - they simply re-grab
When to Use
A two-hand shove into a wall or carA shirt-front or lapel grab preceding a strikeAny close-range control where your air or posture is threatened
